In my moment of feeling helpless, broken, and alone, a smiling face and a simple note made me literally cry. Sometimes a little kindness can be lifesaving/life-changing.
I went to the hospital the day before my birthday because of leg spasms and bad pain. I’ve always had hesitancy going to Mercy Clermont. I was in too much pain to drive anywhere else. I have been an emotional mess. I honestly don’t know if I was going to make it through the week. Jess came in with a smile on her face. I felt like an idiot. I had been crying. She was totally respectful, caring, helpful, and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. She saw I was cold and brought me a blanket. When I trailed blood all down the hallway, Jess helped me clean up the floor. She seemed grateful to help. She offered no judgment, just a smiling, helpful face. I couldn’t have asked for more. When I went to leave, I looked for this nurse to say thank you and let her know how much her kindness meant, and I couldn’t find her. When I walked out, there was a note stating to stay positive, thanking me for letting this nurse care for me, and wishing me a happy birthday. Yes, my birthday hit while I was hooked up to my IV bag alone at the hospital. While there, I was wondering where I was going to sleep and how I was going to get home. In my moment of feeling helpless, broken, and alone, a smiling face and a simple note made me literally cry. Sometimes a little kindness can be lifesaving/life-changing. I wish I could nominate this nurse a dozen times! She deserves it!
