Jessie makes it a priority to listen to each patient and understand their concerns, as well as their vantage point regarding barriers to returning to their prior level of function.
During COVID (and even prior to COVID), innumerable nurses have stepped up to the plate and provided exceptional care for many acutely ill patients. For this occasion, a nurse that comes to mind is Jessie Bailey. Jessie is relatively newer to SCCH. She covers Med/Surg and Inpatient Rehab. During my rounds with IPR patients, many have commented on Jessie’s care and attention to detail during her routine assessments as well as her communication with family and Physicians. It is visibly evident during informal observation Jessie goes above and beyond in thoroughly examining the patients, reviewing the plan of care with them, as well as actively engaging the appropriate team member with questions on behalf of a patient. Jessie makes it a priority to listen to each patient and understand their concerns, as well as their vantage point regarding barriers to returning to their prior level of function. Optimally, this routine effort equates to a good prognosis for the patient upon discharge. The daily tasks of a nurse are often novel, immeasurable of impact, as well as confounding in the overall patient care, but actively engaging each patient in their overall evaluation and treatment via listening and communication is a foundational exception, which I believe Jessie goes above and beyond in demonstrating during her care of patients.
