On the day before his discharge, she organized a heartfelt birthday celebration complete with cake, balloons, and gifts-all themed around his favorite Green Power Ranger.
Over the past six months, Jessica has demonstrated exceptional compassion, creativity, and dedication to patient-centered care on our neuro unit. Her actions exemplify the highest standards of nursing and reflect a deep commitment to treating the whole person, not just their medical condition. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure patients feel valued and cared for.
One example involves a patient with Down Syndrome who remained on our unit for eight months. On the day before his discharge, she organized a heartfelt birthday celebration complete with cake, balloons, and gifts-all themed around his favorite Green Power Ranger. This thoughtful gesture transformed what could have been an ordinary day into a cherished memory for the patient and staff alike.
More recently, she cared for a patient with Huntington's disease who had experienced profound personal loss. During his stay, he shared his love of Christmas and a special tradition of viewing holiday lights with his late mother. Jessica recognized the emotional significance of this memory and advocated to make it a reality. Because of her heartfelt care and concern for this patient to have as memorable of a Christmas as possible, we were able to arrange for this patient to go to see Christmas lights on 12/23. This experience brought immense joy and comfort to the patient, who now proudly tells everyone, "Jessica is my friend."
Chaplain JP captured her impact best: "She gives hope-not in some esoteric way, but through real actions and compassionate words. Real hope. Real human. Real care." Her unwavering dedication to holistic care and her genuine heart for individuals with special needs and mental health challenges set her apart as an extraordinary nurse.
While she will soon graduate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, we are profoundly grateful for her contributions to our neuro team. In summary, she embodies the values of empathy, advocacy, and excellence in nursing. Her actions have not only improved patient experiences but have also inspired her colleagues and elevated the standard of care on our unit. She is truly deserving of this award.
