October 2022 Honoree
Jessica Cervantes, RN, ADN
Jessica was a nurse who floated to 4 Pavilion and noticed one of her patients exhibiting symptoms of alcohol withdrawal despite the patient denying any substance use on admission. The patient was having guilt/shame that was preventing her from admitting her substance abuse to the treatment team due to some psychosocial concerns. Jessica informed the patient of the resources available and let her know that the staff was here to help/assist her. The patient later agreed to see a social worker to connect the patient to the resources. Jessica made sure to do the necessary steps to maintain/ensure the patient’s privacy while getting her the support she needs to recover. Jessica is so deserving of this award for providing compassion without judgment, advocating for the patient’s specific needs, and truly exemplifying our motto of ‘patients first.’ We are lucky to have her as part of the PIH family.
Thank you, Jessica, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
