Not only does Jess shine to all her patients, but she is competent with the entire health care team.
There was a specific patient that was about to be discharged then had to stay longer than expected. The patient became discouraged, but Jess continued to be in bright spirits for the patient during the duration of their stay. She joked with the patient which made them feel better, and she listened intently and explained the serious things when the time was appropriate. She really got on the level of the patient and made sure they understood their condition. Even after discharging, Jess told the patient that she was available to take any phone calls from them with any questions they might have. Later after discharge, the patient paid a visit to Jess, thanking her for her incredible efforts to promote healing and well-being. They even had fun nicknames for each other that kept the patient's hospital stay light and bearable. Not only did Jess take care of this patient, but she ensured care for the family as well. She continually asked the family members if they needed anything at all, and catered to their every request. She spent lots of time in this patient’s room, simply chatting with the patient and family, unrushed and unbothered. This is just one patient instance out of three similar ones lately. Jess went above and beyond to make sure the patient was comfortable with self-care before discharging, made sure their medications were ready to be picked up, made sure all appointments were in place (by personally calling them and scheduling them) and following up with the patient to make sure they were doing well and improving. Not only does Jess shine to all her patients, but she is competent with the entire health care team.  She is always patient with doctors, case management, physical therapy, and teaching incoming students as well; during the stay of the aforementioned patient instance, there was one day where Jess was juggling three nursing students that followed her. She patiently answered each and every question, helped the students pass medications, and continued to talk to the doctors as well to provide clear communication about the patients during their stay. Jess truly is one-of-a-kind and deserves all the recognition in the world.
