Jessica went above and beyond for a pediatric surgery patient. She took the time with a Spanish speaking family to realize they did not understand most of the information being given to them because they were embarrassed to admit they could not read or write which created a lot of concern since the patient was going home with a drain, two oral antibiotics, Tylenol and ibuprofen. Jessica, therefore, called the pharmacy to find out the color the medications were and the amounts per dose. She then tracked down duct tape color to match the colors of the meds and color-coded syringes to match the meds colors and marked the amount to give to create a system they would understand and be successful at. Jessica spent hours with this family to understand their needs, talked to the pharmacy and created a system to educate them to make their discharge possible. She showed such advocacy for the patient and family. Her caring, compassion and ingenuity for education to provide truly exceptional patient care.
