She kept doing her job and maintained a positive and compassionate attitude toward her other patients.
I have worked at Seton Main for quite a while and Jessica is relatively new. She quickly transitioned to charge nursing in the ER but still also pulls regular bedside shifts. Seton Main ER is a difficult work environment as it can very quickly change from steady to incredibly busy on a dime and tends to have very sick, medically complicated patients. One night in particular, Jessica was working as a bedside nurse and the ER was overflowing with patients. I was there admitting all night long and many of those patients were Jessica‘s. She was starting continuous infusions, dealing with ICU-level care patients, caring for very needy patients, and even had an unruly patient hit her. She came to me for orders on a different patient and I could see the frustration on her face as she was almost in tears, but she kept doing her job and maintained a positive and compassionate attitude toward her other patients. I know a lot of nurses at Seton deal with similar issues, especially in the ER, but I just wanted to applaud Jessica for her extraordinary work ethic and care she gives her patients and how professionally she composes herself towards her coworkers despite such stress. We could all learn a lesson on how to handle pressure and deliver excellent care under stress from Jessica Daniel.
