Professor Jessica Gay is a great instructor of health and illness concepts and is committed to instilling strong patient care in her lessons. She teaches difficult concepts in an understandable way and often relates the concepts to her real-life experiences. She welcomes questions and makes students feel that their questions are important. I am especially interested in her experiences in labor and delivery and mother/baby because I hope to work with babies after graduation in some capacity. Professor Gay spent close to an hour with me one day talking to me about her own experiences, answering my questions, and offering advice. In another instance she spent time on the phone with me and let me interview her for a professional development project. She gladly spent time with me even though she is a professor, a practicing nurse, a clinical instructor, and a wife and mother of two young children (and more, I am sure, that I don 't know about). I am not fortunate enough to be in Professor Gay 's clinical group, but I have talked to several students in her clinical group who have told me that she takes time to teach them and truly support them. She is smart and funny and makes learning hard concepts interesting and fun. I look up to her as an outstanding role model of what it means to be a nurse.
