We had a patient on our unit for a very long time. Her prognosis was very poor and was close to passing away. She had no family locally and went months without visitors. She was a very difficult patient; not very thankful for the work we do.
One weekend Jessica took care of her and made a difference in her life. She had compassion for her. The only things this patient had to look forward to was watching TV and eating. Jessica identified this and brought two of her favorite chocolate bars and a Marions pizza she had been craving. For the first time in a long time I saw this patient smile. While it was something small to Jessica, it meant the world to our patient. It made her dark world a little brighter with something to look forward to.
Jessicas compassion and attention to detail make a difference to our patients and her coworkers. Jessica is a prime example of a DAISY nurse. She has made me look at my practice and reflect on myself for ways I can be a better nurse. Thank you, Jessica!
