Nurse Jessica decided that she would go get Monster's Pizza and ice cream on Tuesday (her day off) and bring it for the patient. She took him outside for a special lunch on Tuesday.
There was a patient on Med-Surg who had been in the hospital as an inpatient and/or swing bed for several weeks. Over the past couple of weeks, all the care team members have noticed that he has been declining, especially his mental health. Very depressed. One day, the patient's mother took him outside. On Monday I was talking to a group of nurses/aids before I changed his wound vac. They told me he was a different person after he came back inside from his trip outside. He sat up at the bedside for meals (he had previously stopped doing that). He was much more motivated to get out of bed, etc. As we were talking, Nurse Jessica decided that she would go get Monster's Pizza and ice cream on Tuesday (her day off) and bring it for the patient. She took him outside for a special lunch on Tuesday. As I was walking between my office and the hospital, I saw them at lunch. The patient was so happy. This warms my heart and makes me so proud to work here. We have a nurse who took time on her day off to try to brighten the spirits of one of our patients. The patient was more relaxed and happier than I have seen in a while.

I was not able to be present in the hospital with Mom during this stay and it is very unnerving for me when that happens. Thank god for her nurse Jessica. She has been such a blessing to us this week. She was responsive, thorough, attentive, and gracious. She is a wonderful asset to your team! Thank you!
