She showed care, compassion, and patience for a patient
Jessica arrived a new medic until a room opened that the patient could go into. The patient was angry, confused, and belligerent. Jessica remained very patient and polite with the patient throughout her care. She told the oncoming RN she would be the one to hand off care on the patient as the RN assigned to the room was unfamiliar. The oncoming RN demanded that Jessica start the IV and obtain blood work as she was responsible for the patient for the past 30 minutes. It was explained that Jessica had worked with the care team to get medications ordered that the patient needed in order to be more comfortable with the IV stick although it was no longer Jessica’s responsibility. She medicated the patient and then continued to be very patient with her throughout the lengthy process of starting an ultrasound IV. This is the perfect example of the nursing principle of beneficence. She showed care, compassion, and patience for a patient when both the patient and the patient’s nurse were unappreciative of her efforts and even mean to her. She is a kind person and an exceptional nurse.
