Jessica had several patients to attend to during their recovery time, but she never left her focus on my needs and comfort.
I was scheduled for a SmartPort implant at Carroll Hospital. Needless to say, I was not looking forward to the surgery. I encountered numerous nursing staff throughout the preoperative and operating room surgery, all efficient and professional, but the nurse that stood out for me was Jessica Gilliam. Jessica had several patients to attend to during their recovery time, but she never left her focus on my needs and comfort. The episode that really complicated her role in the discharge process was that my "designated driver" was AWOL!
My driver had left the hospital grounds to dine for lunch at a local restaurant, thinking that they had much more time before they had to return. So, in addition to Jessica's clinical chores, she worked on locating my driver and setting up backup driver plans "B" and "C". She even offered to drive me home (assuming management approved). She oversaw the required X-ray, got me some lunch, and reviewed the discharge protocols while I was waiting. My driver appeared finally, but late. Although another member of the unit normally wheeled patients to the driver's car, Jessica said she was personally going to do it. I felt really special!
Jessica was a model of a caring, professional nurse. Her service was very much appreciated and, I believe, well above expectations. I trust that her appraisals and compensation reflect what I believe is a consistent level of high performance. Beyond my appreciation for Jessica's attention and care, my surgery experience overall was a testimonial to the quality of care that Carroll Hospital can provide.
