To begin with, I must just tell you about my husband. He has been a dialysis patient for over 5 years, he is in very poor health, amputated feet, fingers, I could go on and on. He was a hardworking, beer drinking, golfer. Life as he knew it stopped. He blamed the world, always critical of others, he threatened to quit dialysis, commit suicide, he hated each time he went.
I came home one day, he was sitting in his chair, you could tell he was thinking hard about something. I said, "well what's wrong now, what happened today at dialysis?" Because he always had something to complain about. He says you know that Jessica Groh, I said yes why? He said, you know she is just like Kathy Goetzl. Well anyone who knows that name knows she was an exceptional nurse. He said Jessica really cares about me, she doesn't just look through me, but at me. She is always smiling, she makes me feel important, you can tell she cares. That she is here for me, not just a job. I almost fell over. He never likes anyone these days, I truly believe she keeps him going. He never speaks of stopping dialysis or committing suicide anymore. You can tell when she has been his nurse, he comes home happier. I can call her with my concerns, and she makes sure his needs are met.
He thinks she really deserves this honor, and I do too. Anyone who is so patient, kind and caring to this old grumpy man deserves it. Jessica has all the qualities of an excellent nurse, caring, compassionate. She is the light in my husband's hard life, she keeps him going. We are so blessed and thankful for the care she gives him. I truly believe if he didn't have her to look forward to he would have stopped his treatment by now.
Thank you, Jessica Groh, for all you do, even when you probably don't even realize the impact you have on others.
