Recently, I’d brought my 21-year-old child into the ER for severe depression and anxiety. It was debilitating. My child could hardly function. While in the ER, Jessica was the sweetest, most nuturing nurse possible. She remembered my daughter. Before we left, we asked if she had any advice for dealing with anxiety. She took our question to heart, and talked to us about techniques that she has heard of, and opened up about personal techniques that work for her. She talked with us for about 15-20 minutes. It’s hard to express how helpful the small tips were, as they helped my daughter get through minute to minute. However, the most helpful point of all is that Jessica was sincere in her concern and willingness to help my daughter. She took our question seriously, as she earnestly discussed options. As I said, it was important that Jessica shared about herself. I saw my daughter’s ears perk up when she felt the camaraderie and sincerity in Jessica’s words.
