She has the ability to thoroughly assess her patients, connect with them, develop rapport, analyze all of the information she is gathering, and independently, week after week, come up with interventions and suggestions to improve the patient's outcome.
I had the honor of having this student in my 3rd semester clinical group Spring 2024 at Ascension All Saints. From day one of orientation, I could tell she was going to be a student who was dedicated, motivated, and 100% engaged in gaining as much knowledge and experience as possible during this clinical. She had all the documents printed and organized for our clinical semester and came to orientation with questions and clarifications to enable her to understand fully what her role was in caring for her patients and as a student nurse.

Having a background in a dermatology clinic, I was unsure what to expect when we got to the floor, and she had her own med/surg patient. You would have thought this girl had worked her whole life in med surg. She has the ability to thoroughly assess her patients, connect with them, develop rapport, analyze all of the information she is gathering, and independently, week after week, come up with interventions and suggestions to improve the patient's outcome. I would try to give her the most difficult patients to challenge her, and every week, she continued to impress me with how well she cared for them.

There was a bed-bound client with MS that had not moved from her bed for days. The student was the only one who advocated to get the Hoyer lift out and transfer her to a chair. The patient was overjoyed with this intervention and appreciated it more than anything.

She stayed steps ahead of me every week when it came to things I was hoping she would catch and implement for her patients or orders that were missed. Her ability to assess difficult situations, handle difficult patients, and easily find ways to smooth things out was impressive. When it came to her peers, she was a silent but natural leader. Always willing to help insert a difficult NG, place an IV when they couldn't get it, assist with difficult care plans, and always contribute insightfully in post-conference. During downtime, this student would wash her client's hair and, trim toenails, providing extra TLC to her patients that others were not able to do. She would advocate for her patients and speak with doctors who were rounding, collaborating like she had been doing it for years. Yet every week, she would humbly reflect on areas of improvement or weaknesses she needed to work on. My only issue with her is that I couldn't convince her to leave her Dermatology clinical and work at the bedside. Regardless, she will be an amazing nurse and touch the lives of many no matter where her path takes her.
