She was patient and compassionate with the student and the patient, a true leader and patient advocate.
This student was assisting first year nursing students with charting, patient care, prioritizing their day, and reviewing medications with them during her senior lead experience. She accompanied a first-year student to do a procedure. Her observation skills told her that this was not the correct patient room. She was able to use her experience as a seasoned student nurse to intervene and show the student how to prevent errors in patient care. She was patient and compassionate with the student and the patient, a true leader and patient advocate.
That same day she was able to intervene with a patient who was getting the wrong type of diet after having a stroke. She was proactive in making sure this patient remained safe and after multiple phone calls and conversations with the dietary staff, primary nurse and charge nurse, the patient received the diet she was safe to eat. Her patient advocacy that day was outstanding. She is truly an example of what an extraordinary nursing student should be.
