Having your child rushed to the PICU is a terrifying experience. Jessica Lafitte was there, orchestrating what felt like chaos and making sure we got a layman’s translation of everything the doctors were ordering, helping us understand all the craziness. Jessica was not our nurse the next day, but when she came back the following day, the first thing she did was tell us she had been thinking about our daughter and hoping she had done everything she could to be helpful. Jessica is personable, diligent, funny, and incredibly smart. We appreciated how she connected with us and worked to make sure the PICU experience still felt human. When our daughter was intubated while under sedation, she was the one to give us the news and did so with professionalism and a huge heart. She wasn’t there when our daughter graduated back upstairs but made sure to send her best wishes to us, which means a lot.
