Jessica recently turned a "train wreck" into a beautiful birth. A woman came in after a failed attempt at a home birth, refusing interventions, yet clearly panicked and needing guidance. Jessica calmly and firmly got down within inches of the patient's face and instructed her to breathe. She talked her through each contraction, over and over and over again. After hours of doing this, she finally allowed Jessica to check her cervical changes/progress, having refused all interventions and checks up until this time. Jessica worked incredibly hard to connect with this young woman, established trust, and provided her with the guidance that would ensure a smooth delivery. Through Jessica's diligence and determination to provide top notch care, this patient was able to achieve the unmedicated vaginal delivery that she so strongly desired, and felt empowered by her own strength and body. Her baby's delivery was beautiful and perfect, and the patient thanked Jessica profusely. All of us had tears in our eyes as this delivery came to an end. It was an incredibly intense and emotional experience for all of us.
