To me, having someone who always wants to know more and understand things going on for future reference, in any field, but especially in the medical field, is the person I want on my side, on my team and taking care of my family members.
Our 82-year-old mom had a stroke and thrombectomy. Jessica, day nurse on duty, was the best thing that could have happened to our family and my mom during this situation. She was with mom the first two days while in SICU. Jessica is the epitome of what a caregiver should be in this world. Jessica was very kind, compassionate and patient with mom, and all of us as well.

She took time to explain everything that was happening, in a way we all, including mom, could understand. She took time to explain to us siblings the best way to help mom. She kept us all abreast of any tests that would be happening and when, even if they were postponed. She explained each and every medication given and why it was being given. She patiently answered all of my numerous questions about the meds as well, and didn’t rush through or make me feel incompetent by the questions I was asking.

That first night, some medications were given by the night staff because of my mom’s heart rate not being stable. When I asked them why, I didn’t get a complete answer, I actually got some conflicting information. The next morning I had mentioned it to Jessica, but she wasn’t sure why either. Later when the Doctor's PA came in to speak with us, Jessica was right there asking her about the concerns I had about mom’s treatment the night before. And, also asking questions of her own to better understand what was being done for the situation.

To me, having someone who always wants to know more and understand things going on for future reference, in any field, but especially in the medical field, is the person I want on my side, on my team and taking care of my family members. Jessica helped alleviate some of the anxiety for both my mom and my family during a very stressful and difficult time. She is a shining example of how all medical professionals should treat their patients and how all human beings should be in this world! Thank you so much Jessica!
