Jessica has a reputation for going above and beyond to provide exceptional care to her patients. In one situation, we had a patient who was suffering from chronic pain due to a debilitating back injury from hypermobility. She had been in and out of hospitals for years, seeking relief from her constant pain, but nothing seemed to work. She had lost hope and was mentally and emotionally drained from her long journey. When she was under Jessica’s care, she was apprehensive and skeptical that anyone could truly help her. From the moment Jessica first met her, she could tell she had been through a lot. Jessica sat down next to the patient and began to listen attentively. The patient shared her long and painful medical history, and Jessica made sure to truly understand her experience. She asked about her goals, hobbies, and what made her happy before the pain had taken over her life. Jessica took the time to research management techniques and therapies available at our hospital. She consulted with the medical team (and me) and advocated for a holistic approach to the patient’s care. Jessica helped coordinate scheduling with physical therapists, pain specialists, and psychologists to develop the patient’s personalized pain management plan that ultimately incorporated physical therapy, mindfulness exercises, and medication adjustments. But it wasn't just about the medical aspect for Jessica. She understood that the patient’s emotional well-being was equally important. Jessica introduced her to support groups where she could connect with others who shared similar struggles. She also encouraged the patient to rediscover her love for painting, knowing that it could serve as a therapeutic outlet. As time went on, the patient's chronic pain became less overwhelming, and her life began to regain some semblance of normalcy. She credited Jessica for not only providing excellent medical care but also for seeing her as a whole person and helping her rediscover her passions. Jessica’s dedication and genuine care transformed this patient’s life. She had not only alleviated her physical pain but had also restored her hope and happiness.
