She spent hours with me over my stay talking to me like a friend and totally understood what I was feeling and going through
I was admitted to St. Pete’s with severe abdominal pain and nausea. After being stabilized by ER Staff, was placed in a room to determine my health issues. When placed in my room I was still feeling moderate pain and nausea and was both physically and emotionally spent. And my loving wife of 37 years wasn’t allowed to visit me and help with my fears of being very sick with no emotional support. I was feeling pretty low and to compound the issue, I had been off my anti-depressant meds for the prior 3 days due to pain and nausea. Then Registered Nurse Jessica Mahr walked in and introduced herself as my assigned nurse for the 4 hours I was with her that day getting settled, and the next 3 days. She spent hours with me over my stay talking to me like a friend and totally understood what I was feeling and going through. With her empathy, positive outlook towards her job and her patients, and the extraordinary care I received from Nurse Mahr during my hospital stay, I felt this nurse went way above her traditional role and enabled me to leave the hospital in a much better emotional and physical condition. We often spoke of why she became and nurse and why I entered law enforcement for a career and after hearing her motivation and drive to become an exceptional Registered Nurse, I really admired her spirit and tenacity in striving to excel in all her endeavors. While there she asked me for permission to train other staff on several pieces of equipment used in my care. While she was training the other staff, I was thinking how much I respected her abilities as a trainer and her ability to communicate to her patients was exceptional. Even after being relieved by oncoming staff, she always stopped by to check my urine retention problem and use the bladder screening equipment to see if I was passing the right amount of urine. My stay at St. Peter’s was outstanding considering the circumstances. A very humble and ultra-professional like Nurse Mahr just adds another level of professionalism and pride within the St. Pete’s organization.
Very nice and caring. Grandpa has enjoyed her caring for him and it made his day when she walked in the room to let him know she was his nurse for the day. He appreciates everything she has done to help him get better. She went above and beyond keeping us updated on grandpa despite how busy she is with all her patients. Our family is so grateful for Jess.
