In the Fall of 2021, Jessica was in OB clinical with me. She was caring for a mom who had just delivered via cesarean section and was returning to the unit with her newborn. Upon transferring the new mom and her baby back to the antepartum area, Jessica and the nurse identified that the newborn was turning blue and was not breathing. Jessica assisted the staff RN in calling a code and quickly initiated resuscitation of the newborn. Thanks to her quick actions and the attention of Jessica, the baby was ok and recovered well. Throughout this incident, Jessica maintained professionalism and did everything that was expected of her. She worked well with the nurse to ensure the patient’s needs were met and continued to provide care for the rest of her shift. When offered the opportunity to step off of the unit, Jessica insisted on continuing her care for this mom and baby. Jessica is deserving of the DAISY Award for her compassionate and conscientious care.
