In clinical day, Jessica showed a great desire to learn as much as possible and expand her skills, but perhaps being more important, she recognizes the human caring aspect of nursing. Her experience on the first days showed her that patients are people not just room numbers when she got to sit with a patient to keep him safe. Every day since then, she remembered that human connection and brought it to her interaction with patients, family members, and staff.
One nurse in practice recognized Jessica's excellence and requested to continue to be assigned to her week after week. Nearly anyone can learn to give medications and perform nursing skills, but Jessica's desire to treat patients with compassion and respect is what makes her an extraordinary nurse.
