We had a very critical post-trauma/surgical patient in PACU who unfortunately coded multiple times. Due to the patient's condition, I was unable to leave the bedside. The surgical staff greatly appreciated Jessica's help and quick response to the overhead code. Jessica jumped right in and demonstrated what true teamwork is. She is an excellent nurse and demonstrated extraordinary care outside of her department to our surgery team and to the family of this patient. The patient ended up being transferred to a trauma center. Jessica stayed with us after resuscitation to help stabilize, returned again after a second code, and stayed until the patient was stable enough for transfer. In addition, Jessica called for air-evac transfer, printed all of our charts/prepared the packets for the receiving facility and the flight crew, assisted with the EMTALA forms, and most of all comforted the family in the waiting area! She did a fantastic job of keeping them updated on the patient's status and assisted in getting the family back to see their loved one before the transfer. The patient's brother told me how important it was for him to be able to see his brother before he left and that nurse Jessica "was simply a God-send". I would have not been able to get it all done in such a swift manner without her. She is a role model in our facility and I would love to see her recognized for the awesome work she does every day. She sets the bar high.
