Jessica Pierce always goes above and beyond for her patients.
On this particular day shift, she cared for a patient who had been in a minor auto accident and was cleared for discharge from the Emergency Department. The patient did not live locally so he was discharged to the waiting room to wait for family to pick him up. Jessica was very concerned about this patient because despite being fully oriented and alert, he was unable to articulate how or why he was in Bertie County despite living in Asheboro. When his sister (next of kin) was called to come and pick him up, the sister expressed this same concern. The next day when Jessica came to work, she asked about this patient and found out that he was still in the waiting room. He had been given a place to lie down and a meal, but still no one had come to pick him up. Jessica was immediately concerned and spoke with the patient. She determined he was on medication that he should have taken by then. She then spoke with local law enforcement and asked them to bring the patient's belongings to the hospital from the wrecked car so he could take his medications. She then called his sister again regarding picking him up. The sister stated she was elderly and would be there that day to pick him up. Jessica found out that the sister had not come the night before because she did not want to drive at night. Jessica followed through to make sure that this patient was picked up by his sister that day and that all his needs were met.
Jessica went above and beyond to ensure the well-being of this patient even when he was discharged. This is the heart and dedication of a real DAISY Nurse.
