I just want to share how Jessica went above and beyond to care for a patient in the Operating Room. A pediatric patient was scheduled for surgery with an orthopedic surgeon. She is our coordinator for adult orthopedic surgery but stepped in to troubleshoot an incredibly difficult situation. The instrumentation required for surgery was found to be contaminated, along with four other instrument sets. This led to a possible cancellation of this child's surgery as well as an extremely frustrated surgeon. With her quick thinking, utilization of resources, and broad base of nursing and orthopedic knowledge, she was able to find an appropriate set. The surgery was not delayed, and we were able to complete the child's surgery. She provided amazing customer service to our surgeon and a positive patient outcome for a potentially not-ideal situation. As a leader, I appreciate her willingness to step into any procedure and situation with a calm attitude. She truly embraces the HRO behavior of embracing a questioning mindset. She is always advocating for her patients and has changed so many lives with the absolutely incredible care she provides in the Tacoma General operating room to some of our most vulnerable populations.
