Jess Soroka took the time and extra care to call the L&D/Peds unit and to come to the Peds EC to see if we had anything with butterflies on it for a mother who had a late-term miscarriage in the EC.

While doing end of life/ infant loss paperwork, the mother noticed the purple butterfly on our binder and told Jess she had just finished decorating the nursery with a butterfly theme. This patient was not Jess’s primary patient; she was just helping in the resus room and still took the extra time, care, compassion, and most importantly, humanity to recognize this woman's suffering and took the time to go above and beyond to help ease her pain any way possible with a small token.

It should be noted that this was at the very end of a busy midnight shift as well. Jess did an amazing job, and it should be recognized. This seemingly small act was very impactful because we were able to provide an infant loss box and sibling support kit to the family, as well as provide education to Jess and fellow staff on the resources available in the EC
