My eight year old daughter was sent to the ER by her pediatrician to get fluids and a few tests. By the time we arrived to the ER, my daughter was hysterical and fearful of getting stuck with a needle. Jess was kind, compassionate, and patient. She took the time to literally pull up a seat and speak with my daughter to pinpoint her exact fear. Then she explained the process of labs, swabs, and starting an IV on an 8 year old level. Once they were ready to begin she brought all the tubes, swabs, and needles and let my daughter see them. She then went over exactly what she should expect with each tube, swab, needle, and bag. She never once got frustrated by having to constantly reassure her or repeat anything. Every time I thanked Jess for being kind and understanding, she said it was a big moment in my child's life and it was her goal to ensure she would not be fearful of needles in the future. Jess is an incredible example of the kind of person we all should be.
