We are so incredibly grateful that he was still in the hospital when that episode occurred. For all we know, your speaking up and his extended stay may have saved his life or the quality of his future health.
My grandson was delivered six weeks prematurely at Baylor All Saints. He was progressing well and trending toward discharge when you observed that his head appeared to have grown too quickly. Indeed, he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and transferred to Cook's Medical Center for additional treatment. I hope you don't mind that we sought out your identity through a dear family friend who also works in the NICU. On behalf of our family, I wish to express our extreme gratitude to you for your observation and for drawing attention to it. As I understand it, my grandson may not have been under your direct care at the time, but you had the unique vantage of having cared for him for several days prior. So, when you saw him again, you could see the change that the rest of us had not noticed. After transferring to Cook's, he underwent surgery for the hydrocephalus, which seems to be working so far. While there, he also had an episode that led to a diagnosis of Wolff-Parkinson White syndrome. We are so incredibly grateful that he was still in the hospital when that episode occurred. For all we know, your speaking up and his extended stay may have saved his life or the quality of his future health. I am very pleased to report that he is doing well. He is still at Cook's, but he is strong, continues to progress like a champ, and has not yet shown any symptoms or issues that might be expected. We will understand that we will be watching him closely for years to come, but we are cautiously optimistic and have already seen God's protection in his life. Both Baylor All Saints and Cook's already have special places in the hearts of our family. Our grown children were both born at All Saints, our son had a surgery at Cook's to repair a hernia at two months of age. Our experiences in our grandson's early days echo what we experienced many years ago - both hospitals are very special places. My grandson’s parents and extended family have received exceptional care and compassion in every way. We extend our thanks to you and to all the other angels we encountered serving various roles, for knowing your patients and for caring for them and their families so well. We are beyond grateful and thank God for you.
