No words can express how thankful I am to have had Jess there for my patient when I couldn't be.
Jessica Vadeboncoeur has been such a supportive addition to the nursing areas. She is constantly being pulled to every area of the hospital, keeping track of the most critical patients in-house. Some nights being busier than others but the 1 night I choose to focus on occurred this last week.
I had a patient unexpectedly take a turn for the worse. In the moment of her decline, we had to not only focus on her needs, but we also had her roommate to care for as well. As the primary RN of both patients, I was trying to communicate with staff regarding the patient, contact and notify the family of the situation, and address the concern of the roommate as she listened to the event unfold behind a curtain.
As I attempted to prioritize and address all issues, Jess was there... holding the hand of my patient as she passed away. She stayed by her side the entire time, doing what was needed to comfort my patient until the family could arrive at her side. Sadly, the family arrived after her passing, but I was able to reassure her that she was cared for until the very end. I know this made them feel better about their loved one's passing, knowing she wasn't alone, she didn't suffer, and that her comfort and well-being were provided for until the very end. This is the type of reassurance that is priceless for families and for us caring for our patients; knowing they are in the best care by all members of the healthcare team.
For all Jess does, her dedication to providing care for our patients, it's the little things that truly have such an impact. No words can express how thankful I am to have had Jess there for my patient when I couldn't be.
