Jessica is within her first year as a RN and is a shining light on her unit. She is always smiling, happy and energetic not just with her patients but also with her fellow team members. She is a team player who makes a personal connection with her patients whenever she can.
She recently cared for a patient who got some not so good news with a poor prognosis and wanted to do something special for him, because he was rather upset, depressed and all together let down by the bad news. She was very passionate about trying to make her patient's day better and just simply cheer him up. She coordinated with her leadership team and the 4343 team to get a special gift for her patient. She had learned that he and his spouse were huge Disney fans. She was able to get him a stuffed Mickey Mouse plush, flowers, and a card which was signed and presented to him. Upon giving the patient and his spouse the gift, all the patient could do was cry, hug the Mickey plush and just say, "thank you thank you so much, Jessica". Her empathy, kindness, and attention to detail helped to make this patient's stay a better one while here at ORMC. The following day the patient's spouse came in during the early hours to request that Jessica be their nurse for the remainder of their stay at ORMC whenever she worked, they trusted her and admired what she did for them. Jessica's selflessness in this situation made a personal connection with not only the patient but his spouse as well, they did not feel like just a room number, diagnosis or patient in a bed but like a person who was loved and cared about by their nurse.
