I had a pacemaker implanted and was admitted to 10T as an inpatient. The nurse taking care of me during the day shift was Jessica Weisnaar.
I found that Jessica is a person who looks at the patient as a whole, instead of thinking of the patient as some kind of medical procedure. Yes, she does address medical care needs, but she does much more than that. Jessica displays both competence and confidence as a health care professional. As a patient I had the good fortune to have her as my nurse upon admission. What I really value is that she really listened to me and demonstrated her attentiveness not just by acknowledging me, but by making me feel like I was her only patient and she was interested in my well-being. Jessica is a nurse I can trust because when she says she'll do something for me, she does it and in a timely manner. Also, she was very good at providing me with information related to my medical procedure (pacemaker implantation). Pain is something no one wants to have, and Jessica could see I was in pain after this procedure. She provided me with more than just medication for the pain, as she found an arm brace to help stabilize my upper shoulder movements. It has helped immensely, and I am still using it as needed as I continue to recover.
In my opinion, patient care is more than taking care of medical needs. It's also helping a patient with their mental health towards achieving wellness. While I was apprehensive about the recovery process from this pacemaker implantation, Jessica made me feel at ease with her demeanor and her explanations. She portrays a sense that she really cares about me - her patient.
Jessica always seems to have a smile on her face, and presents herself with an upbeat attitude as displayed through her non-verbal communications. She was very positive about my progression throughout my stay in the hospital.
Jessica provided me with both the physical and the psychological care to get better. I can't say enough about how professional she is and that she is an example of excellence at Aurora St. Luke's.
