During my week-long hospital stay following a new diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, I had the privilege of being cared for by Jessie Garcia. Jessie works the night shift, and I was fortunate to have them as my nurse for 5 out of the 7 nights of my stay. From the very beginning, Jessie’s attentive and compassionate care made a profound difference in my experience.

The first three days of my stay were especially difficult as I struggled with pain and the overwhelming reality of a new diagnosis for a chronic condition. Despite my frequent requests for pain medication, water refills, chicken broth, and warm blankets—what I can only describe as my “high maintenance” moments—Jessie always responded with patience, warmth, and a delightful disposition. They never made me feel like a burden. Instead, they made me feel like their most important patient.

Jessie’s ability to provide comfort and reassurance during such a vulnerable time truly set them apart. They anticipated my needs, listened with empathy, and consistently went above and beyond to ensure I felt supported and cared for. Their professionalism and kindness were unwavering, even during the busiest nights.

I feel incredibly blessed that our paths crossed. This young nurse has an excellent future in nursing. They exemplify what it means to be an extraordinary nurse. I am deeply grateful for the care Jessie provided.
