I recently underwent a surgical procedure at your facility and am writing to share my experience with one of your staff as I believe that her actions truly epitomize the definition of Excellence. Wikipedia defines excellence as "Excellence: a talent or quality which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards." I define Excellence as Jessie Giesler. I cannot begin to express how impressed I was with the care that I received while under the care of Jessie. While my stay at MBMC was a good one, I did encounter a couple of issues that had the potential to diminish my experience.
As I'm sure you are aware, as a patient in a hospital, one can feel quite vulnerable and uncertain, and even afraid at times. That is why so many of us rely on the expertise, experience, and compassion of the nursing and support staff. They not only help to support our medical treatment, but also support our emotional and mental well-being while under their care, and help us through the "bumps" that might occur along the way. Unfortunately, I did experience a few of those "bumps" and would have not been a satisfied patient were it not for Jessie Giesler.
From the actual second Jessie walked into my room with her big warm smile, I knew I was going to be in the hands of someone who truly cares for her patients. Jessie sensed that I had a concern, approached my bed, looked me straight in the eye and asked me if there was anything bothering me. She maintained direct eye contact and assured me she would take the steps necessary to address each issue that we discussed. I could see in her eyes, that she spoke the truth.
Jessie quickly collected detailed information from me, assessed each issue, and systematically began to direct staff on the floor to attend to each of my needs. She became directly involved in my care, and it was not even known by me until later that day that Jessie was in a Supervisory/Specialty role within MBMC. I could not believe that she took the time from her busy schedule to tend to my needs. I was more important than the other things that she had on her schedule, and for that I am truly grateful. Jessie's level of empathy, professionalism, integrity, honesty, compassion and commitment all combined to make my stay at MBMC a most memorable one. She is the single most patient-focused caregiver I have ever encountered.
In the DNA of Jessie Giesler is entrenched the essence of what American chemist James B. Conant meant when he said "Each honest calling, each walk of life, has its own elite, its own aristocracy based upon excellence of performance." Jessie Giesler is the definition of Excellence.
