My patient felt validated and heard, which meant so much to see. Jessie embodies the strength, compassion, and determination that is needed to be an excellent nurse.
I am a psychotherapist who was in the emergency department with a patient of mine who was in crisis. I spent 6 hours in the ER and can honestly say Jessie was one of the most supportive and thorough nurses I've ever worked with there. My patient was having suicidal ideations and Jessie was kind, supportive, and gentle. My patient has been seen in the ER under similar circumstances a few times in the past, which has made other staff question her validity. Not Jessie, though. Jessie took her time with my patient and was empathetic. At one point, the patient was tearful and stated she felt like "no one cared or believed her". When Jessie heard this, she said, "Of course you matter, it doesn't matter if this is the 1st time you're seeking help or the 100th, what you say and how you feel MATTERS." My patient felt validated and heard, which meant so much to see. Jessie embodies the strength, compassion, and determination that is needed to be an excellent nurse. She values others and is there for them in their time of need. As a provider in the community, I was so grateful for the time and effort Jessie put in w/my patient that day. She, along with with the officers responding, saved the life of a very misunderstood and lost young 13-year-old girl. Thank you, Jessie. You may not remember us, but we will always remember you and your kindness.
