Jesus Salgado Delgadillo, RN
In mid-March 2026, as part of my health treatment plan, I went to Glenwood Springs Cardiac Catheter Lab for an angiogram and possible stent placement. I am 83 years young. I am an active octogenarian who goes to the gym every day, and my wife and I have a llama farm. I am a retired English teacher and school counselor, having enjoyed thirty-four years in the profession. My wife and I live in western Colorado and traveled several hundred miles round trip to receive treatment in Glenwood.
Only moments after we walked into the lab, we were greeted by a cheerful, confident young man named Jesus Salgado who announced he was our nurse. With such a demeanor, our anxiety level quickly diminished, and we knew we were in good hands for my serious procedure. Jesus took us to our preparation area and calmly described the events of our day. His knowledge and experience were so reassuring that we knew exactly what to expect in specific terms. Of course, our cardiologist had given an explanation, but now we were walking through the real deal step by step. Jesus asked us some questions to show he was genuinely interested in us and in the steps we would be taking. His directions provided knowledge that supported our building trust. His professional explanation was direct and to the point, and we wasted no time in getting ready.
Quickly, I was in my gown, and he dexterously placed an IV. He continued the conversation, addressing both my wife and me, understanding we were a team. He made us feel good by showing appreciation for our 40 years of marriage and asking about the children. He was willing to share that he had children also and had attended nursing school at Glenwood Springs Hospital. He introduced the surgeon and assured us they had been a team for a while. We were happy to see their camaraderie and professional interaction as both were playing key roles. We were ready for the nitty gritty of the procedure and he explained the room where we would be, and what part he would perform.
The regimen of preparations that Jesus did was done with such precision that we knew we had made a good decision to be in the here and now. The procedure was followed just as Jesus had described it, and it finished just as he said. Fortunately, the results were positive for me. Our son and granddaughter are both RN’s. We all believe compassion and education are keys to professionalism. Jesus deserves a DAISY Award in our opinion. Jesus had made a difference in our day. His attention to detail, incredible smile and compassion, solid education, and care for our feelings and thoughts were all in the making of those little tears of appreciation as we left the hospital. Jesus is a role model, compassionate nurse with outstanding skills, and a wonderful person. His experiences across several departments and his desire to continue learning are exemplary. Jesus will always be a DAISY in our garden! Thank you, Jesus!
