Jesus was my 20-year-old daughter K's nurse for the three days she spent in CCU after a complex spinal fusion surgery. It was the second spinal surgery she had had in the span of 2 weeks, after suffering a traumatic accident. K had been through so much in such a short amount of time and having Jesus as her nurse was truly a gift. He was extremely kind, gentle, compassionate, and thoughtful. He explained everything to her in a respectful but informative way. He was always thinking about her dignity and privacy. Jesus knew that K had recently become an EMT and that she is very interested in everything medical. Unfortunately, she developed a heart irregularity while she was recovering. Jesus took the time to sanitize his stethoscope and put it in her ears so she could hear what her heart was doing. Then he placed the stethoscope on his own heart so she could hear the difference. I think he did this because he was hoping to help her gain as much knowledge about her situation as possible. Plus it was a good "distraction" from the personal implications to help her to understand it from a clinical perspective. It was such a thoughtful gesture and it warmed my heart. Jesus is an extremely competent, compassionate nurse, and I believe he is a treasure to Valley View and its patients.
