August 2026 Honoree
Jharte Shropshire, RN
Our father had to spend Father's Day weekend in the hospital for surgery. My sister and I were scared, stressed, and helpless during his illness, as we had already lost our mother the day after Mother's Day three years prior. Nurse Jharte Shropshire went above and beyond to make my father, sister, and me comfortable and informed during his hospital stay.
From the moment she stepped into the room, Jharte was warm and professional. She clearly communicated and demonstrated her clinical expertise in an easy-to-understand fashion with an unflinchingly positive attitude. Her attention to detail and commitment to teamwork especially stood out. When my father needed help readjusting in bed or using the restroom- an action he can usually do independently but could not because of his surgery- Jharte’s familial attitude ensured my father could accept her assistance, along with other members of the nursing staff, and move safely.
When she noticed his IV was causing him discomfort, she coordinated with a specialist to replace it with a more effective option. She even went so far as to recommend what to order to eat post-surgery. For someone who demonstrated such clinical excellence, Jharte also excelled in engaged, compassionate care unlike any we have ever experienced in a hospital setting. Even though my father was in pain, he lit up every time he saw Jharte. I cannot overstate the positive impact she had on our family. For us, having already lost a parent, Jharte treating us like family and taking the best possible care of our father made all the difference in the world.
