I am submitting this nomination based on my recent interaction with an exceptional nurse from 6 East. I had the pleasure of meeting Jill while a family member was hospitalized at MGL. I absolutely fell in love with this lovely individual. Jill, by far, must be one of the best nurses I have encountered working in the medical field over the past 40+ years. 

As an employee of McLaren Greater Lansing, I am familiar with the information shared with employees and the emphasis of providing quality patient care and overall goal of increasing patient satisfaction scores, in my opinion, if all MGL employees modeled their delivery of care such as Jill, MGL’s scores would be at the top in every category.  

A few examples of how she stood out as an exceptional nurse: the very first encounter with Jill, she used AIDET, direct eye contact, and spoke in a soft, kind, and loving manner. She spoke to our loved one and would stand by the bedside holding her hand while chatting with family. Always patient and never hesitated to take the extra time to answer a thousand questions from a large family. 

Jill was present during tough medical conversations with various physicians, she helped advocate for the family when she felt that information was not understood, Jill would encourage the Physicians to clarify or prompt further questions.

The size and number of individuals that were in the room at any given time never seemed to be an inconvenience to her, and she made everyone feel welcome. She went out of her way to have more chairs brought into the room, coffee, and water to ensure all family members were comfortable during this most stressful time. 

At the end of her shift, knowing that this would be the last time she would provide care to our loved one and be with our family, Jill made a point of hugging each person. 

You cannot teach this type of genuine care and compassion. MGL is blessed to have such a nurse who will positively impact so many lives.
