A patient arrived at the Short Stay Unit for placement of a PICC line by the Vascular Access Team. She was accompanied by her 2-year-old son. She had no one to watch her son during the placement of the PICC line. Jill gained the son's trust by showing him pictures and was able to get him to come out of the patient's room for crackers and juice. Jill entertained the son for 40 minutes while the mother's PICC line was placed. This made a big difference for the patient and Vascular Access Team to place the PICC line. The mother could hear her son and Jill playing while the line was placed. Jill went above and beyond to assist this patient and family.
