Nurse Jillian initially was our triage intake person. She was very outgoing and developed a rapport with me and my 10-year-old son. We eventually were told he would be admitted and would need an IV. My son was already very upset at the prospect of needles, especially an IV. Nurse Jillian was helping our assigned nurse by getting the IV in. She took me aside to speak to me privately, and I told her he was having significant anxiety about an IV. Nurse Jillian collected supplies and proceeded to spend over 30 minutes educating my son, letting him touch and see the medical supplies. Then, she searched diligently for his preferred location. Despite her best efforts, the IV needed to go in his hand, and her empathy and compassion were beyond description. She made every effort to make him comfortable and keep his panic at bay. I can't thank her enough, and I would like her to be recognized for her outstanding bedside manner and compassion for my terrified child. Thank you, Nurse Jillian!
