Between my husband and I, we have worked in healthcare for a combined total of 20 years, but neither of us had experienced an inpatient hospital stay prior to the birth of our daughter. The happiest day of our lives quickly turned really scary when our beautiful newborn daughter had breathing difficulties overnight.
Jillian was in the room with us when the doctor broke the news that we would have to be transferred. Over the course of the next few hectic, scary hours, Jillian was there to listen to our fears and demonstrated true empathy and concern for our situation. She helped to make sure we had all of the necessary paperwork filled out, and all of our stuff was packed up and ready to go.
When our baby was being placed in the transport pod, Jillian was very attentive to my needs and offered me a chair to sit in and encouragement that everything was going to be ok. When we were racing out the door and realizing that we had not had any lunch in the midst of the mayhem, Jillian gathered all of the snacks she could find in the OB unit, plus gave us her own personal lunch that she had bought in the cafeteria to take with us. This simple, but extremely kind act really struck me as going above and beyond to help us out in our difficult situation.
It was difficult and scary to have a baby with an unknown health condition in the middle of a pandemic, and Jillian is a true DAISY Nurse for being a wonderful, calming, helpful presence in the midst of that storm.
