Her persistence and sense of responsibility in that moment made a tremendous difference in my comfort and recovery.
During my recent stay at Lutheran, I had a nurse who completely transformed my experience. This was my first time ever staying overnight in a hospital — I was there for four days and three nights — and she made what could have been an anxious, uncomfortable time feel calm, safe, and reassuring.
From the moment she entered the room, she carried herself with quiet confidence and genuine warmth. She listened closely, anticipated my needs before I even had to ask, and approached every task with care and professionalism. When I was in significant pain and waiting for an epidural, she persistently advocated for me, calling the unit multiple times until it was finally approved. Her persistence and sense of responsibility in that moment made a tremendous difference in my comfort and recovery.
Beyond her medical skill, what stood out most was her communication. She explained every step clearly to both my wife and me, making sure we understood what was happening and never felt left in the dark. She balanced technical expertise with compassion and empathy, treating me like a person, not just a patient. She made me feel that my well-being truly mattered.
Throughout my stay, I never once felt anxious or overlooked. She checked on me frequently, adjusted things before I had to ask, and made sure my pain was managed appropriately. Her presence brought peace and trust to what could have been a very difficult experience.
When I left the hospital, I told everyone how impressed I was by the level of care I received at Lutheran, and it was entirely because of her. She is the definition of a DAISY nurse — compassionate, skillful, patient, and deeply human. She represents everything the nursing profession should stand for: excellence, empathy, and unwavering dedication to those in her care.
