Each time JK was on duty, he was professional, thorough, and compassionate.
This was a long and difficult time for my brother and our family, but I am writing to let you know about the wonderful care my brother received from one in particular nurse, JK. Each time JK was on duty, he was professional, thorough, and compassionate. He updated us on how things were going, when and why certain tests were being performed and helped us to navigate through “My Chart” in a way that we understood, and always returned our phone calls in a quick and concise manner. There were some complications, a blood infection, additional surgery needed at the wound site, weight loss, and the insertion of a feeding tube. When we needed to speak with one of the physicians it was JK who could always point us in the right direction and get us in touch with the appropriate individuals. JK illustrated step-by-step instructions on the proper way to change and empty the urostomy pouch, which was a huge help to all of us. One the day my brother was discharged, he was right there helping us pack his bags, and double-checking to be certain that he needed nothing. Furthermore, he was certain that my brother was being discharged with medications, necessary supplies, a list of follow-up appointments, a home care nurse, and necessary rehab information, which all of us refer to daily. We strongly support and admire all of the individuals in the medical field. Every one of them is to be commended. We are delighted to have him home, but could not have let his time at West Penn go by without letting you both know what an outstanding and Extraordinary Nurse you have in JK.
