Jo-Anne Lally is a maternity clinical instructor at the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) and long-time staff nurse at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, MA. Jo-Anne has demonstrated her commitment to our students in numerous ways. Last winter, our nursing students at BIDMC encountered very challenging circumstances related to clinical placement and lost precious clinical time. Jo-Anne went above and beyond to ensure that these students had the opportunity to make up those clinical hours. She made herself available on weekends in order to enhance the students? opportunities for clinical learning. In addition, Jo-Anne continually supports our students by serving as a preceptor during their senior year Capstone course. She has committed to serve in this capacity with many students over the years. Another way that she demonstrates her support for our students is through her faithful participation in our Commencement ceremonies. Jo-Anne is one of the few clinical instructors who prioritizes attending these special events, and her students are always so happy to see her there ? celebrating them. Our students adore Jo-Anne and consistently report that she makes every effort to find opportunities for them to hone their clinical and patient teaching skills. Along with being an exemplary student advocate, Jo-Anne is a strong supporter of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS) at UMass Boston. It is because of instructors like Jo-Anne that the CNHS is able to maintain outstanding rapport with our community agencies.
