Jo met a family who was from another country when the patient came through PACU. The patient later experienced a crisis related to his ongoing cancer. The patient's companion that was with him had to go back to the country and she didn't know what to do. So Jo had her over for dinner and helped her go through the options. She was able to get a copy of the patient's will, and get it placed into his chart here. Jo had given her phone number to her and told her if she needed anything to call her. She did the next day.
From then on Jo went to the patient's room 5 times a day used her i-pad so the patient's son could say his goodbyes. She did this for 4 days. She laughed and cried with the family, until this patient passed. She made herself available even though she wasn't the nurse caring for the patient during that time. She was able to call the son and let him know his father had passed. She shared her heart, and her time. She became part of another family, and made this patient's passing easier for everyone. This is going above and beyond!
