Joan
Kristiansen
,
RN
Nursing Supervisor
Community Medical Center
I had a personal family emergency and immediately felt a sense of comfort in a time of crisis when I heard Joan's voice on the other end of the phone.
The basis of my nomination is both personal and on behalf of my nearly 100 staff members. I consistently receive positive feedback from my team members, including providers, that Joan approaches each house supervisor shift with unwavering integrity, commitment to excellence, and compassion. Staff highly value Joan's capacity to communicate effectively and authentically. They have developed a level of trust with Joan that is unparalleled by others. I find Joan's reputation to be synonymous with "extraordinary", the fundamental basis of the DAISY Award.
I have personally learned so much from Joan over the years and have undoubtedly expanded my own vocabulary due to her frequently spoken sophisticated words. More recently, I had a personal family emergency and immediately felt a sense of comfort in a time of crisis when I heard Joan's voice on the other end of the phone. She quickly mobilized ED's response, checked in on us upon arrival, and later sent a get-well card that was both unexpected and gracious.
While sitting beside my son as Joan exited our ED patient room, he looked up at me to say he was grateful for the "smart people that went to college so they could take care of people like him." At that moment, I realized how lucky CMC was to have such as competent and compassionate house supervisor at the helm and how lucky I feel to have cultivated a lasting friendship with Joan Kristiansen.
It is widely known that the house supervisor role requires the ability to negotiate, juggle, calm the troops, creatively troubleshoot, and most importantly lead.
