Joan is an excellent nurse. She always provides her patients with top-notch care even if they don't want it (such as gettingsurgicals up and walking.) Joan was helping another nurse out by starting another IV line on a patient who needed multiple lines for multiple fluids, IVAB fluids, rider, etc. While Joan was putting a line in, she felt that the patient looked uncomfortable. After the IV start, Joan proceeded to provide the patient with a bath. Now you may think, "what is the big deal?" Well, Joan was busy herself with her own patients. First, she took the time to help this RN with the IV. Then she felt the patient would benefit from a little more TLC, so she provided it, along with providing quality care for her own patients. The patient was status post abdominal surgery. She had 2 FVs, 2 drains, new colostomy with an abdominal incision. She took the time to assist this patient who was not directly under her care. Kudos to Joan! I am honored to work alongside her each weekend.
