Captain Joan Parrish of the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is the newest DAISY Award honoree at Phoenix Indian Medical Center.

In August of 2015, Joan took care of a post-op patient in the ICU who was very pleased with her caring and nursing ability. It was late summer in Phoenix and the afternoon sun was bearing down on the patient's room through the west-facing window. Joan took the time to make a barrier to dim the sunlight, and then got Maintenance to place a cover on the outside of the window so the patient could rest. Joan went above and beyond the call of duty to make this patient's stay in our hospital as comfortable as possible. Joan's cheerful attitude and sense of humor made a lasting impression on this patient as she recovered from surgery.
