Joana had an elderly female patient who was agitated from being in a strange place. She had some dementia, and her comfort came from her dog, Major, who was at home and obviously couldn’t be here with her. This patient pulled out her catheter and it needed to be replaced. Joana went to the gift shop on a break and bought this patient two stuffed dogs to try and minimize her agitation and distract the patient so we could put the catheter in. It worked!!! The patient held and loved on the stuffed dogs while we did what we needed to do and the smiles and calm spirit that came over the patient (due to Joana’s kind and compassionate idea) were amazing. Watching Joana interact with this patient and the rapport she created with this patient was phenomenal and in true Mercy spirit.
