Joann is supposed to leave at 3 pm every day, but you’ll often find her still at her desk until 5 pm (or even 7 pm) getting work done to help our unit when needed.
Joann has been so nice to me each time I have had a visit due to my disease of bipolar disorder. I have been hospitalized for suicidal ideation many times (I lost count). Joann got me my phone for my numbers right away. Joann has always been kind and caring. I believe she is the best nurse here at Augusta Health. She explains things in a clear, concise way that doesn’t talk down to someone of my high school education level. Thank you, Joann, for your heart and compassion. May God bless you and your family.

Working on Crossroads can be a difficult and often thankless job. It isn’t something that’s meant for everyone to do and do well. We are not always the favorites of our patients, but we do what we do because we love it and want to make a difference. Joann is one of those nurses. I often tease her by saying “She's what I want to be when I grow up.” We have started a “staff shout-out” board and this was our first full month. She had more shoutouts than anyone else and the one thing that everyone can agree on is that she’s the glue that holds our unit together. They’re right.

She could (and often does) run our unit. She’s charge every day she’s here. She gets most of all our discharges ready for the following day even when she won’t be here to make it easier for those of us who are still learning. She makes sure the checks are on time by doing half of them herself. She helps case managers by making follow-up appointments and arranging transport when the patient leaves. She’s supposed to leave at 3 pm every day, but you’ll often find her still at her desk until 5 pm (or even 7 pm) getting work done to help our unit when needed. She is one of the most caring, compassionate, and competent nurses I’ve ever had the pleasure to call a co-worker, friend, and mentor. She never asks for anything extra, never says she deserves anything special and never boasts about herself. She’s gracious and special and deserves to be recognized for what an amazing nurse she is and how valued she is by us all! Thank you.
